Located on the Queens and Nassau border, the Elmont Union Free School District comprises six elementary schools serving 3,900 students from varied backgrounds and international origins. EUFSD’s educational approach focuses on meeting and exceeding state learning standards. Students develop reasoning and decision-making skills in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.

As part of its drive to exceed standards, EUFSD began a pilot program to introduce interactive whiteboards to their fifth and sixth grade classrooms in 2005. Today, EUFSD has an interactive whiteboard installed in every classroom, resource room and library in the district.

There are nearly 200 SMART Board interactive whiteboards currently in classrooms, and the district plans to install an additional 20 in the 2009-10 school year in computer labs and academic intervention services classrooms, which provide supplemental reading services for students. EUFSD teachers use the whiteboards and interactive response systems to customize teaching and learning with a wide variety of digital resources designed to meet the individual needs of their students.
