Absolute® Software Corporation, provider of firmware-based, patented computer theft recovery, data protection and IT asset management solutions, announced on May 12 that Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (NC) are using their Computrace® software to protect against computer theft, reduce laptop management costs, and simplify inventory processes.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth is the fifth-largest school system in North Carolina with about 51,000 combined students in its 40 elementary, 15 middle and 11 high schools. The Computrace® software will be used on over 25,000 computers.

The Computrace solutions address three important factors for K-12 school IT administrators: knowing where computers are, making sure they’re working, and protecting them against theft. The software provides advanced reporting to ensure that district administrators can instantly inventory computers and their hardware and software configuration regardless of where they are. Administrators can also make sure computers remain in top condition by detecting tampering, unauthorized software installations, and receiving alerts for out-of-date antivirus software. If a computer is stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team can locate it, and at the end of the school year, IT administrators can send a message to students using Computrace, asking them to return their assigned computers.
