High school districts in the Illinois counties of Lake, Will, Kendall and Kane will be some of the first to implement Pearson’s new “Miller & Levine Biology” program. Many other Illinois middle and high school students will also use Pearson’s “Prentice Hall Literature” program, as well as other programs for different subjects—the new Pearson programs strive to combine digital and print elements to engage students.

Yorkville High School chose the program based on its satisfaction and success with previous editions. Harry Wolf, the high school’s incoming science department chairman, said teachers were impressed with the new layout, content and individualized approach, and that they are “excited about using the ditigal path” with students more. He added that they appreciate the program’s options to differentiate instruction with Foundations and Spanish versions.

Scientist-authors Ken Miller and Joe Levine developed the new program to include a dynamic digital path that offers students and teachers a variety of activities and information, including virtual labs, online student and teacher editions of textbooks, editable worksheets, games and online assessments. Students can also follow Pearson’s team of “untamed scientist” videographers that present science reality videos for each chapter’s theme.

The Prentice Hall Literature program is a comprehensive curriculum that offers a completely digital alternative to complement print textbooks. It also provides teachers with tools for lesson-planning, managing resources, and connecting with students, including English Language Learners.

Additionally, many Illinois secondary students will learn from Pearson social studies curriculum solutions such as America: History of our Nation and math programs such as Prentice Hall Middle School Math and High School Mathematics.
