Alabama partners with STI for statewide enrollment and scheduling

STI announced its partnership with the Alabama Department of Education to provide a Web-based statewide enrollment and scheduling system for the state-led online learning program.
 
STI’s InformationLIVE will help Alabama manage scheduling and staffing for ACCESS (Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, and Students Statewide). The ACCESS distance learning program is an initiative from the AL Department of Education, and provides Alabama public high school students with the opportunity to take AP, elective and other courses not provided in a typical school setting.

The continued success of online learning requires states to make policy and funding changes as well as manage a new stream of data. STI’s program will enable Alabama to streamline online course registration and monitor student progress, by integrating unique student identifiers and other data from Alabama’s statewide student information system into InformationLIVE. The online learning data also allows districts to monitor students’ academic progress and make sure they are on track to meet graduation requirements.

Alabama recently became the second state in the nation to require students to complete an online course during high school, effective in the upcoming 2009-10 school year for all incoming freshmen. Students will use InformationLIVE to register for online or videoconferencing courses with the help of their counselor.
