In efforts to keep up its strategic use of technology in classrooms, the Western Wayne School District (Northeast PA) has announced that it will implement Wyse Technology thin clients. Western Wayne received a “Schools of Excellence in Technology” award in 2009, an honor that is only given to three school districts in the state.

Western Wayne’s five schools serve nearly 2,500 students. In recent years, the district has focused more on incorporating technology for its students, faculty and community. Recently, Western Wayne decided to move away from a PC infrastructure toward one based on virtual clients. The district previously had to replace 60 computers annually at a high cost of $70,000—fortunately, the switch to thin client infrastructure has allowed the district to add 100 new thin clients per year at a savings of $25,000 annually after the second year. With the cost savings, Western Wayne has incorporated additional technology services into departments such as Art and Music.

The district has already found success through the use of technology—over the past two years, Western Wayne has seen solid growth in students’ Math and Language Arts achievement. Brian Seaman, Network Administrator at Western Wayne, says that “the use of technology to support data analysis and classroom instruction has contributed to this increase in achievement.”
